Attn Team Teamwork: Stop.

This is an open letter to Team Teamwork:

Hello. I am a video game fan. I am also very much a fan of music, with video game music ranking very highly amongst my tastes. While I wholly endorse the idea of updated, orchestrated, or remixed versions of some of my old favorite tunes, what you people are doing is horrific.

There is a reason why people so far haven’t spliced together popular rap artists lyrics and timeless video game tunes — the result sucks dick, both as an experience and as a concept. Your “work” is an aberration. It is atrocious.

Koji Kondo is a man I have very much respect for. Its surely difficult to create lighthearted-yet-emotional themes that suit the atmosphere of a game and are solid enough to be instantly recognizable by even non-gamers. Ocarina of Rhyme has defecated on this man.

Now, you have moved onto Final Fantasy 7. Though it is far from the best of the series so far as soundtracks, Final Fantasy 7 has some of the most recognizable themes for RPG fans. As it just so happens, Nobuo Uematsu is (in my opinion) the greatest composer of our time. Vinyl Fantasy 7 is a slap in the face to this man, and will serve to crudely defile not only his body of work, but some of his most-heard themes.

I beg of you, please stop what you are doing. Jay-Z and Ghostface Killah should not be mentioned alongside the likes of these two phenomenal composers, let alone mixed together. To combine the works of these two wholly-different artists is to create a crime against God.
